Why waves help you wind down
Waves have a slow, rolling rhythm: a rush in, a pull back, a pause. Many people find it natural to let their breathing slow down to match it, which is a gentle way to settle before sleep.
Between the swells there's a soft bed of foam and spray, so it never drops into silence.
Waves over a fan
On their own, waves rise and fall. Put the fan underneath and you get the rhythm of the sea on top of a steady hum that covers the gaps, which is good for light sleepers.
